Bd meeting, October 6, 2004
- Attended: Kerry, Gabriel, Peggy, Doug, John, Leon, Lisa
- OSonOS Next year Aug 3--6, 2005, Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Doug to be note taker for this meeting. (Corrections invited!)
- OSonOSinUS? November 6, 7 & 8: teleconference for the Convenors and our OSI Board: 19 Oct 2004, 1:00 pm Chicago time; Doug to send an invitation to our board members to attend the conference call. Doug will send invitation for OSonOSinUS? to Bd members again. And to OSlist again. Gabriel: Keep sending it.
- No need to disguise HO surprise references in our minutes--already posted at Goa, in presence of HO
- Doug intends to convene a session, perhaps a butterfly session, on HO's birthday.
- Peggy: Make sure Judi Richardson is aware--she is good at party organizing.
- At a session in Goa--an inquiry into the effectiveness of OST; they developed an AI inquiry format. This suggests it might be good to gather the stories for Harrison. Gabriel will be happy to be online story collector for that.
- Peggy will not be attending OSonOSinUS?; Gabriel may be attending.
- John will post a session to troll for new board members at OSonOSinUS?
- Gabriel has info about posting on Catalyst for Doug.
- Goa report by Peggy: probably $3,000-$4,000 ahead. Their option to decide what to do with this money. Possibly to build up OST practices in India; or to bring people from India to Halifax. Not clear what the decision will be.
- About 50 people attended; very few Indians--most of the Indians were in OST for first time.
- Circles of Change DVD: Doug has watched; Kerry cannot open it. We will defer the conversation on this subject till next time.
- Space Corps: postpone till next time.
- Gabriel: AI conference report: 22 volunteer online hosts online 24/7 to greet people as they logged in. Shared stories of what was going on. Generated an intense bond. Relatively easy to create. Could we do the same thing? Gabriel--takes 2 to 3 times the length of the video to edit it--for two people.
- POP audio: HO wants to know if we can market it. Possibly a download and a CD. Gabriel can convert a lot of formats to other formats. Put this in the bin for next time.
- Refine grant priorities--postpone for next time.
- Principles in 15 languages: Peggy did not take to Goa. Leave in the bin. Gabriel: could have high res and low res for download so people can produce it themselves. Doug: Maybe some things should be a public service, without charge.
- OSI charges for fiscal services: Peggy: originally we said 10% of the fees is our charge. $7500 fees in Goa; our fees would be $750. Our cost was several hundred Dollars, so our income is $2-300. Lisa: it was staff time, donated. 27 or 28 people at 10 minutes each = about 5 hours. There could be chargeback fees. We were not doing it for tax deductions; done because we could. Some confidential info is being handled--a trust issue. And the info going outside our board. Doug: our costs plus X %; Kerry: or we pay people for their time. Or discuss with sponsors on a case by case basis. Leave the question in the bin. This year was 10%
