I was introduced to Open Space as a participant and have with much enthusiasm and an eager drive to learn followed the community through the OSlist. I am hesitant about the extent of my involvement in this sight as I am not a facilitator. However, as a human, when I feel called to communicate I have a hard time keeping quiet! If anything I present regarding Open Space is inaccurate, please enlighten me…thanks!
I am a student of the heart, bringing passion, playfulness, and presence into the work I do and the life I live. I value learning from and with people of all ages from different backgrounds. I’m dedicated to supporting and nourishing social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual well-being in individuals, families and groups with a particular emphasis in educational communities. My goal is to open space for the realization of one’s deepest gifts, creating environments where life may flourish.

Currently I am working towards my Master’s degree in counseling with an emphasis on Play Therapy and Transpersonal Counseling. I notice the essence of one’s inner being that is called forth in Open Space Technology. To live and interact with one another from that place, being open, vulnerable, and present is invigorating! I work towards co-creating spaces with individuals that encourage us to explore the life that is within us and around us. Although the structure is different from OST, I see many parallels between my practice and OST in our intent to provide an opportunity for people to experience, discover, and act from that place of peace.
I have spent the last 10 years working as a school counselor, life and family coach, teacher, self-discovery mentor, group facilitator and wilderness trip leader. I have worked individually with children and adults and have facilitated groups in the areas of parenting, grief and loss, anger management, and personal growth. As an early childhood teacher, I was guided by the Reggio Emilia approach to education which focuses on following the child’s attention as a means of uncovering fertile ground upon which learning unfolds.

I have a B.A. in Sociology, a certificate in Early Childhood Education, and a Master of Education degree in Counseling, specializing in Play Therapy, Filial Therapy with teachers and parents (groups that focus on strengthening the child-caregiver bond), and Transpersonal/Integral? Counseling. My approach is influenced by training and experience in Gestalt Theory, Open Space Technology, Positive Discipline, Roots of Empathy, conflict resolution, body awareness approaches, and a host of specialized techniques for psychodynamically oriented practice.

When I am not deeply engaged in conversation, I love to travel, dance, practice yoga, take pictures, hike in the woods, sit by a creek, or stroll through my neighborhood.

:I'm not a facilitator either, in the professional sense. I work in a bureaucratic government institution, but I try to open space anywhere I can, formally or informally. The great thing about this site for me is that I can use some of my skills of understanding and explaining and simplifying without having to change my life to become a professional OST consulant or practitioner or whatever. It's good stuff. --TedErnst
