What would be the minimum amount of structure needed to make "it" work ? And what is "it"? I have liked having a map like we have had, and this can obviously do more. What added value do you have in mind ? GerardMuller |

Summary of the meeting:
Koos and I looked at the prototype of the new world map at http://www.openspaceportal.de/openspace/map/.
In addition to the features of the world map that has been in existence for some time and is updated continually, this map has the following features:
1. As you move the cursor across the map, the names of the countries show up
2. The pop-up window of each country will show the names of os-practitioners in that country who chose to be named
3. Each name in each window is a link to more information on that name
4. Each user will receive a username and a password to edit and update her own information
5. There are four directional buttons so that you can move north, south, east and west on the worldmap
6. There is a zoom function (the steps between each click will be larger than now)so that messy places like Europe can be shown in great detail....in fact, some countries like Canada could be divided into their political subunits like Provinces, States, etc.
7. There will be an additonal zoom function: draw rectangle by moving mouse diagonally over the map, when you release the mouse button that rectangle becomes the zoom area
Additional suggestions are welcome, of course.
Preliminary estimate on creating the databank based world map is 1800 Euro.
In the first year, the production cost should be covered through a user fee (100 Users, 18 Euro per user, etc.). In the following years, a fee of 15 Euro or so per user will be collected and donated to the access queen. Peggy Holman is willing to do the collection and accounting via the credit card function of the open space Institute usa, thank you Peggy.
Whoever wants to have her / his name in the map and is willing to participate in the cost, please talk to me. So far, next to myself (Germany), Koos de Heer (Netherlands), Agneta Setterwall (Sweden), Eiwor Backelund (Sweden), Kerry Napuk (England), Thomas Herrmann (Sweden)have expressed interest in participating.
One question is whether and how national institutes might show up on the map.

I was joined in the second part of this workshop by Kerry Napuk from Scotland. He suggested that the pop-up window for each country should have the name of the country (in fact, I have been planning to have the name of the country in the language of the country and then in English)and then be divided into two smaller panes, one with the heading 'facilitators' and the other with the heading 'case studies' or something like that so that one can reach a list of facilitators and a list of 'cases' perhaps sorted by fields (such as business, church, etc.) He also suggested that the site should be a stand-alone site with a name perhaps like 'world map open space'. The financial arrangements and the aspect that parts of the income go to the access queen should be clearly stated. I had just finished posting this: The map is great and sounds like it's getting greater. I'd like to see this effort be not-separate from the directories and other traffic beginning to show up at OpenSpaceWorldNET and OpenSpaceWorldORG?. The ORG address is listed in Harrison's books and opens with so many languages, with room for more. I don't see the need for a new domain name that can only split attention. Also, is there some arrangement for sliding scale and individuals updating there own information in the map, so that it can be managed on an ongoing passion-bounded-by-responsibility basis? --MichaelHerman
And then ChrisCorrigan showed up at the front door. We declared each other the right people and convened a session. We started out feeling not quite right about this new direction for the map, even as we were glad to see this excellent mapping process gathering momentum. so after some discussions here, we concluded the following...

I agree with the features proposed to the map in Part I. I disagree with adding more features that will increase complexity and price, as in Part II. The map has been in the MMP site because he cared for it, amd must continue. If there should be an alternative, I agree with MH and CC, that it must be the openspaceworld sites. I have many doubts about the finantial aspects. I would prefer to try to obtain some institutional grants and sponsors and NOT colllect money from practitionners. I know it is a small fee, but it is a matter of priciples - we shall collect money from customers, not from other fellow participants (I am unable to explain this better in English - may I explain in Portuguese?). I think the Acess Queen is doing a superb job, but I think that in the future different OSI's will need to have incomes (probably from members) and decide who should be representing each nacional, regional or linguistic OSI in OSonOS. --ArturSilva
Other issues for me include just the plain size of and sheer numbers of facilitators in Canada and the USA. What does it mean to have Harrison for example listed as the the contact for the USA? Is there a responsibilitity that users might expect from this person that he direct you as facilitator nearby? Might it make sense to have OSI's listed where those are appropriate? Where there are no OSI's then perhaps a link in the popup box to the list of worldwide practitioners at OSWorldORG:OpenSpacePractitioners? -- ChrisCorrigan
want to say yes also to artur's mentioning of the site living at MichaelMPannwitz?'s site, and his care and feeding as long as it's something he cares to do. Chris' suggestion of linking FROM the areas on the map TO individual country pages in the ORG wiki makes lots of sense to me. That way you get all the function of the map, and the good looks, too. AND it's virtually once-and-done in terms of adding people. AND individuals can add/edit their info directly (passion+responsibility reigns!). AND this has to cut down significantly on the cost of doing it. --MichaelHerman
